A century later, the Cross Brothers Dam is gone—and the river is finally 'breathing' again.
The Cross Brothers Dam in Vermont was removed in October 2026 after being reinforced with concrete in 1924. This project reconnected 24 miles of the Dog River. Experts said the removal could lower 100-year flood levels at the site by about 7 feet, helping the local community stay much safer.
