Donald Trump lashed out at Barack Obama during his Mississippi rally after the former Democratic president insulted his White House decor, comparing it to a Cheesecake Factory.
“He said, 'This isn't a Cheesecake Factory.' Can you believe it?” Trump told the crowd Monday night, apparently still irked by Obama’s dig from the weekend. “Which is a very successful company," Trump continued. “He doesn't like successful companies.”
Commentators noted on social media that Trump was “BIG MAD” after Obama ridiculed the additions to the White House — including gold accents, a ballroom and a South Lawn helicopter pad.
“Guy’s building a ballroom that’s bigger than the White House,” Obama said Saturday at an Ohio rally. “He’s paved over the Rose Garden. Put a helicopter pad on the South Lawn, and there’s gold everywhere. What’s up with the gold? Everything, more gold!”
“He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory!” Obama quipped.
It was the second time the president raged against Obama’s joke on Monday.
“I’ve taken care of the White House,” Trump said earlier en route to the rally. “I fixed it with the finest artisans in the world. We reskinned it. It was in horrible shape.”
“For you to say it’s a Cheesecake Factory...that just shows why you were a lousy president,” he said.
Journalist Aaron Rupar posted a clip of Trump’s remarks to his 1.1 million followers. “Trump is BIG MAD about Obama saying the White House now looks like Saddam opened a Cheesecake Factory,” he said.
“Obama definitely hit a nerve,” a user replied.
“Uh oh. Somebody got under the tough guy’s skin,” another said.
But Obama was accused of “snobbery” by some Republican commentators.
“Cheesecake Factory is a great option for people who can’t afford a private chef at their Martha’s Vineyard estate,” Matt Whitlock said in a post on X, referencing the Obamas’ estate on the exclusive island.
Trump’s Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, also made a statement by dining at the Cheesecake Factory in Washington, D.C. on Monday.
