President Trump said on Saturday that he had offered Dana White, the chief executive of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and a longtime friend, the role of White House press secretary.
Mr. Trump made the announcement in a social media post in which he pleaded with Mr. White -- a "violet Fighter and Warrior" -- to take the job. The president said he had also requested that Mr. White bring with him a number of U.F.C. fighters to serve as aides who could respond to attacks against the administration.
"I have requested that he bring with him assistants, even though some are not from our Country, of Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harris," Mr. Trump wrote. "We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left. Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!"
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A U.F.C. spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Mr. Trump's announcement came as he signaled that he was preparing for political battle against Democrats when they take control of Congress next year, after Republicans lost control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections.
