President Donald Trump is already threatening to use veto powers after Democrats won back full control of Congress in a stunning midterms election victory.
Democrats are projected to take back control of both the House and the Senate after a series of major wins dubbed a “Blue Tsunami”.
In one of several significant upset wins, Democrat James Talarico won his Texas senate race by defeating Trump-backed attorney general Ken Paxton and breaking the party’s 38 year losing streak in the Lone Star state.
Elsewhere Amy Acton was elected governor in Ohio despite a controversial attack ad campaign against her using her own mother, and potential presidential hopeful Senator Jon Ossoff won his race in Georgia.
Midterm election results are still pouring in after millions of voters went to the polls to give their verdict on the second Trump presidency.
Trump’s initial response to what is turning out to be a disastrous night for the Republicans was to blame the candidates themselves, before posting a picture of a MAGA-style red hat with ‘VETO ‘ written on it.

Talarico targets the super-rich in victory speech
Talarico says the real battle in America is between the super-wealthy and ordinary people.
“The real fight in this country is not left vs. right. It is top vs. bottom. … Our unity is a threat to their wealth and their power,” he told supporters in his victory speech.
“The people at the top divide us by party, by race, by gender, by religion, by culture, so we don’t notice that they are picking our pockets.
“It is the oldest strategy in the world: divide and conquer. But tonight, we sent a crystal-clear message to the people at the top: We will not be conquered.”
Without mentioning the president’s name, he condemned a Trump-led decade of “politics as bloodsport, “as trolling and owning” and “as professional wrestling.”
“People across the political spectrum are hungry for a different kind of politics.… A politics of love,” he added, to huge cheers.

Trump accepts Iran played a role in losses
Trump has acknowledged the war in Iran played a role in Republicans' losses in Tuesday's midterm elections, as Democrats prepared to take control of both the US House and Senate and challenge his legislative agenda.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said Democrats would send legislation he considered "insane" to his desk and that he would veto it.
“They'll send over things that are insane, and I'll veto them,” he said. "And after a couple of months of vetoes, they'll call and they'll say, 'How do we get this stuff done?' And we'll work together.”
Trump said the war in Iran had weighed on Republican candidates, even as voters backed his handling of it.
“I think a part of it was Iran, but at the same time people understood the importance of what I've done with Iran,” he said.

Talarico says America has rejected "politics as bloodsport"
In his victory speech to supporters after defeating Trump-backed Senate candidate Ken Paxton, James Talarico said the campaign against him amounted to “the final howls of a dying establishment” and “the death rattle of a status quo that knows its days are numbered.”
The Democratic senator-elect invoked his Christian faith and urged Americans to embrace a “politics of love” that rejects the Trump era’s “politics as bloodsport.”
“Despite our differences, we all want the same things,” he said.
“But the billionaires who own the social media algorithms, who own the cable networks, who own the politicians on our screens, they want us at our throats,” he added.

Slurring Trump makes stunning admission after devastating night
President Donald Trump acknowledged Democrats’ success after Republicans suffered bruising midterm defeats, telling Fox News: “The Democrats did a good job.”
“We had tremendous rallies,” Trump said, talking about the “great excitement” he saw from supporters on the campaign trail. “We had about 30 of them.
“There were 1000s and 1000s of people outside, let alone inside. Didn't get inside, and they watched for big, you know, screens on the outside of the buildings. They were excited. There was great excitement.
“So I'm a little bit surprised. I thought that I could transfer those people into candidates, but maybe in certain cases, you know, don't forget we had a lot of candidates that did win also.”
