Apple is expected to unveil a touchscreen MacBook Pro at its Wednesday event in Los Angeles. Reports suggest the 14-inch model will start at $2,899, while the 16-inch version will cost $3,399. These prices reflect a $400 jump from current models as Apple enters the touchscreen laptop market for users.
At Apple’s “Pro and Tell” event in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Apple is expected to unveil its most groundbreaking product since last month. As with the unveiling of the iPhone Duo, Apple will likely be offering its own entry in a product category that’s existed for years: the touchscreen laptop. Specifically, we’re expecting this to be an OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro.
But the price may also be groundbreaking, according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Gurman says a starting price of $2,899 for the 14-inch version has been “discussed,” according to his anonymous sources. A 17-inch MacBook Pro in 2006 reached a comparable price point, $2,799. But, that’s without accounting for inflation. It’s also fascinating to note that your 2006 MacBook Pro would have come with a DVD burner. The past is a foreign country.
The $2,899 price tag for the new 14-inch version is a $400 jump above the one currently available. A similar $400 jump for the current $2,999 16-inch version would mean a starting price of $3,399 for the 16-inch touchscreen model.
