Flagship Arrives: BYD unveiled the all-electric ATTO 8 flagship SUV at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, expanding the model line-up alongside the existing plug-in hybrid version. The seven-seat EV is the first BYD vehicle in Europe to feature fast charging. It will sit at the top of the company's European SUV range, with sales due in the first quarter of 2027.
Nine-Minute Charge: The ATTO 8 uses a 115kWh second-generation Blade Battery and has a claimed WLTP combined range of up to 405 miles in rear-wheel-drive form. BYD says its proprietary flash charging can take the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, using compatible high-output chargers.
Up To 775PS: The Design rear-wheel-drive version has a single rear motor producing 462PS and 365Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in a claimed eight seconds and offers up to 405 miles of WLTP range. The Excellence all-wheel-drive version adds a front motor, delivering a combined 775PS and 775Nm, with a claimed 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds and a range of 374 miles.
Cold-Weather Charge: At -30°C, BYD says the battery charges from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes. It plans to install 3,000 flash charging stations across Europe by the end of 2027. The technology requires BYD's own high-output chargers, making compatible infrastructure essential for the advertised charging times. BYD executive vice-president Stella Li said, "Flash charging is the breakthrough for EVs that everyone has been waiting for".
Seven-Seat SUV: Measuring 5,040mm long, 1,996mm wide and 1,760mm tall, the ATTO 8 is a full-size SUV designed to carry seven people and their luggage. Its exterior features matrix-LED headlights, slim daytime-running lights and an integrated roof spoiler. At the rear, infinity-knot tail-lights sit either side of an illuminated BYD logo, while aerodynamic detailing is designed to support range.
Three-Screen Cabin: Inside, the ATTO 8 gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, a 26-inch widescreen head-up display and a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen. Google Built-in provides access to Google Navigation, Google Assistant and Google Play Store. A 2.39-square-metre panoramic glass roof, three-zone climate control and a separate rear air-conditioning control panel are also included.
Massage Seats: All seats are upholstered in genuine leather. The front seats and the outer seats in the second row have heating, ventilation and massage functions, while third-row seats have adjustable headrests. The Design RWD gets 10-speaker audio, while Excellence AWD has 21-speaker DiSound audio. A front refrigerator cools to -6°C or warms to 50°C, and dual 50W wireless chargers are included.
1,960-Litre Boot: With all three seating rows in use, the ATTO 8 offers 270 litres of luggage capacity. Folding the second and third rows increases this to 1,960 litres. The electric version also has a 136-litre front boot. The cabin uses a 2+2+3 seating layout, with two seats in the middle row and three in the rear.
Hybrid Pick-Up: BYD also showed the Shark DMO plug-in hybrid pick-up, which is due to reach selected European markets in the coming months before a wider rollout in the first half of 2027. Its 32.2kWh battery provides a claimed electric range of up to 56 miles, while its two electric motors and petrol engine deliver a combined 436PS and 650Nm.
Dolphin Upgrade: BYD also showed an updated five-seat Dolphin Surf, with a 12.8-inch infotainment screen and Google Built-in on the Comfort version. The gear selector has moved to a steering-column stalk, while Boost and Comfort trims gain a heated steering wheel. Boost also gets heated seats, and climate control is standard across the range.
