Apple plans to refresh the iPad Air, iPad Pro, and entry-level iPad in the first half of 2027. These new models will use OLED displays and faster processors to improve performance. A cooling system will help manage heat during intense tasks, as Apple continues its busy year of hardware updates.

Synopsis

Apple is expected to refresh its iPad models, including the iPad Air, iPad Pro, and entry-level iPad. The upgrades aim to incorporate OLED displays and increased processing power. Additionally, a cooling system will help manage heat during intense tasks. The entry-level iPad will also see improvements, though specifics remain unclear. Major iPad updates are not anticipated in the latter half of 2027.

Apple is expected to refresh three of its iPad models in the first half of 2027, including the iPad Air, iPad Pro and its entry-level iPad, as the company prepares another round of product upgrades following a busy year of launches across its hardware portfolio.

According to a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the tech giant plans to introduce an upgraded entry-level iPad, a refreshed iPad Air with an OLED display and a faster iPad Pro in the first half of next year. Apple will turn its attention to these tablet updates after recently revamping the iPad mini.

The planned refresh comes amid a wider product push by Apple, which has introduced several new devices this year, including the iPhone Duo and the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, alongside upgrades to its MacBook and iPad portfolio. The company has also brought new display technology and hardware changes to its products, with OLED emerging as an important part of its premium device strategy.

iPad Air, iPad Pro likely to get major upgrades

The next-generation iPad Air is expected to move to OLED display technology, bringing it in line with Apple's premium tablet models. The upgrade could offer improved contrast, deeper blacks and more vibrant colours compared with the LCD display used in the current iPad Air.

The iPad Pro, meanwhile, is likely to receive a faster processor and a vapour chamber cooling system. According to Gurman, the cooling upgrade is expected to help manage heat during demanding activities such as gaming and intensive artificial intelligence (AI) tasks.

Apple also planning entry-level iPad refresh

Apple is also expected to launch an upgraded version of its entry-level iPad in the first half of 2027. However, Gurman's report did not specify the hardware, display or design changes planned for the device.

The expected launches follow Apple's recent refresh of the iPad mini, which brought an OLED display, an A20 Pro chip and water resistance to the tablet.

Gurman said Apple is not currently expected to announce any major iPad updates in the second half of 2027, unless its product schedule changes.
