Apple is inviting media to a product event in Los Angeles on October 28. The company is expected to showcase new Macs and an OLED iPad mini. Reports suggest the biggest announcement could be a MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen. Apple also plans to update the 24-inch iMac soon.
Last night Apple launched its new generation of smart home products, including the HomeView smart display, HomePod mini 2 and a new Apple TV 4K. However, the company's October announcements may not be over yet. The company is now reportedly preparing another round of announcements, this time it could focus on a new generation of Macs and iPads.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is inviting some media members to a product event in Los Angeles on October 28. The company is expected to showcase new Macs and an OLED iPad mini. Gurman had earlier reported that the announcements could begin on October 27. Instead of a traditional livestream, Apple is expected to offer hands-on experiences with its new products.
What to expect from the late October Apple event?
The biggest potential announcement by the end of this month could be Apple's first MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen. The redesigned laptop has been rumoured for some time and could mark a significant change for the Mac lineup, which has traditionally relied on a keyboard and trackpad rather than direct touch input on the display.
The new MacBook Pro is expected to replace the existing mini-LED panel with an OLED screen, which could deliver deeper blacks and improved contrast. Apple is also reportedly working on a thinner and lighter design for the 14-inch and 16-inch models. Touch input is expected to complement the keyboard and trackpad, rather than replace them.
Despite the redesign, the OLED models may not use Apple's next-generation M6 Pro and M6 Max chips. Reports suggest that the laptops could instead feature M5 Pro and M5 Max processors.
The OLED MacBook Pro could also come at a higher price than the current models, given the expected display and design changes.
iMac may also join
The MacBook Pro may not be the only computer getting an update. Apple could also announce a 14-inch MacBook Pro and a 24-inch iMac powered by the M6 chip. The iMac may receive new colour options, although details remain limited. A refreshed Mac Studio has also featured in reports about Apple's upcoming hardware plans.
New iPad lineup
In addition to the powerful portable computer systems, Apple could also launch an OLED iPad mini. The next-generation tablet is rumoured to feature an OLED display, an A20 Pro chip, a landscape-oriented front camera and redesigned speakers. A more water-resistant design has also been reported, but Apple has yet to confirm these details.
Do note that these reports are based on speculation, and Apple's final announcements may differ. Take these reports with a pinch of salt until the company officially confirms its plans.
