Shubman Gill fell cheaply for Punjab against Chhattisgarh in a Ranji Trophy match on Sunday. Playing at the New PCA stadium, the Indian captain scored only one run off five balls before Ajay Mandal bowled him. Gill returned to domestic cricket to find his form before the upcoming New Zealand tour.
Shubman Gill's return to the Ranji Trophy took an anti-climactic turn as the Indian captain fell cheaply playing for Punjab against Chhattisgarh at the New PCA stadium in New Chandigarh on Sunday.
Gill walked in to bat at number four but could only last five balls and score one run before he was cleaned up by left-arm spinner Ajay Mandal.
Gill succumbed to a delivery that held its line. The ball went through the gate between the bat and pad to crash onto the middle stump.
The 27-year-old had missed out the opening round of the Ranji Trophy but turned up for the second in an attempt to hit strides before heading to New Zealand for a six-week long tour.
Gill will lead India in five ODIs followed by two Tests as the team attempts to build towards the 2027 World Cup and also find a way to keep itself alive in the World Test Championship (WTC) final qualification race.
