Ravindra Jadeja’s four-year reign as the ICC’s top Test all-rounder ended on October 28. South Africa’s Marco Jansen took the top spot after his match-winning performance against Australia. Jansen also became the No. 1 Test bowler, displacing Mitchell Starc. This shift followed Jansen’s impressive display in the recent Test series.
Ravindra Jadeja's more than four-year reign as the world's No. 1 Test all-rounder has ended. South Africa's Marco Jansen has taken the top spot in the latest ICC rankings. Jansen also dethroned Mitchell Starc to become the No. 1 Test bowler in Test cricket.
India's Ravindra Jadeja has lost his position as the world's top-ranked Test all-rounder after more than four years, with South Africa's Marco Jansen rising to the summit following his match-winning performance against Australia in Gqeberha.
Jansen climbed one spot to displace Jadeja in the latest ICC Men's Player Rankings update on October 28, becoming the No. 1 Test all-rounder for the first time in his career. The 26-year-old finished with 451 rating points after playing a decisive role in South Africa's series-levelling victory in the second Test of the World Test Championship contest against Australia.
Jansen made an impact with both bat and ball, scoring 85 runs and claiming a match-turning five-wicket haul in Australia's first innings. His performance helped South Africa level the three-match series at 1-1 and also propelled him to the top of the Test bowling rankings.
JANSEN DISPLACES STARC AS NO. 1 TEST BOWLER
Jansen's rise has been reflected across all three Test rankings disciplines. Alongside ending Jadeja's long reign as the leading all-rounder, the left-arm pacer climbed five places to overtake Australia's Mitchell Starc as the world's top-ranked Test bowler.
He also gained 13 places in the Test batting rankings to move to 56th, underlining his growing value to the South African side as a genuine all-round contributor.
Jansen's elevation comes shortly after former South Africa great Dale Steyn described him as the best cricketer in the world. His latest rankings haul adds weight to the growing recognition of his impact across formats of the game.
JADEJA'S FOUR-YEAR STINT AT THE TOP ENDS
Jadeja had held the No. 1 position among Test all-rounders for more than four years, establishing himself as one of the most consistent performers in the longest format. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball had kept him at the top of the rankings for an extended period.
Jansen's rise now brings that run to an end, with the South African becoming the latest player to lead the rankings after a standout performance in a high-stakes Test series.
The latest update also saw South Africa captain Temba Bavuma climb four places to second in the Test batting rankings after his Player of the Match performance against Australia. Bavuma scored 179 in the first innings, with England captain Harry Brook remaining the only batter above him.
South Africa spinner Simon Harmer was another major mover, climbing 15 places to eighth among Test all-rounders. Australia's Scott Boland also gained ground in the bowling rankings, moving up three places to sixth.
