Double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra will resume training and rehabilitation in the next couple of weeks. He recovered from an ankle ligament tear that ended his 2026 season. The double Olympic medallist has recovered significantly from an ankle ligament tear that ended his 2026 season, ruling him out of the Asian Games, Diamond League final and World Athletics Ultimate Championships.
Double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra is set to resume training and rehabilitation "in the next couple of weeks".
Speaking on his recovery, the former World Champion said his injury status has improved significantly. "My injury is much better now. I faced some issues initially in the first month and a half, but it has improved significantly. I consulted Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, and he has advised that I can now resume training and begin proper rehabilitation," he said.
The javelin star clarified that he followed complete rest as advised by his medical team. "For my injury, the doctors had advised rest, and that is exactly what I followed," he told the media team of the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The 28-year-old, who won Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020 and silver at Paris 2024, remains one of India's leading medal prospects at major competitions in athletics.
Neeraj last competed at the Lausanne Diamond League in Switzerland on August 21, where he finished second in the men's javelin throw of 88.05 metres. He finished just nine centimetres behind Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who won with 88.14m.
Just a day after registering his season-best effort, Neeraj pulled out of the rest of the 2026 season due to an ankle ligament tear. He missed out on participating in major competitions, including the Asian Games, the Diamond League final, and the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships.
