The Sports Ministry's guidelines cap National Championship assistance at Rs. 30 lakh for high-priority sports and Rs. 25 lakh for priority and general disciplines, subject to participation rules.
National Sports Federations (NSFs) can receive financial assistance of up to Rs. 30 lakh to organise National Championships in high-priority sports disciplines, while the ceiling for priority and general disciplines is Rs. 25 lakh, according to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports' revised guidelines for assistance to NSFs.
The guidelines prescribe different funding limits depending on the categorisation of the sport and lay down participation requirements that federations must meet to qualify for assistance.
For National Championships in high-priority disciplines, the maximum admissible assistance is Rs. 30 lakh each for senior, junior and sub-junior/youth/cadet categories. The ceiling is Rs. 25 lakh for the corresponding categories in priority and general disciplines.
However, the amount a federation receives depends on the participation of its affiliated units. Federations that secure participation from 75% to 100% of their affiliated units are eligible for the full admissible grant. If participation falls between 50% and 75%, the scale of assistance is reduced by 25%. No grant is provided if fewer than 50% of affiliated units participate.

The assistance forms part of the Ministry's broader scheme to support the activities of recognised National Sports Federations, including competition and athlete development.
The guidelines state that financial assistance to NSFs is supplementary in nature. Federations are expected to generate their own revenue to support their operations, while using government assistance alongside other funding sources, including sponsorships and support from public and private institutions.
