New Zealand A took a first-innings lead against India A on Sunday at the Hagley Oval. Mukesh Kumar and Mohammed Siraj took many wickets, but the host tail-enders frustrated the visitors. India A openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan stayed firm, leaving the team trailing by 46 runs heading into Monday.

Significant contributions from the lower order helped New Zealand A take a noteworthy first-innings lead against India A on Day 3 of the 2nd unofficial Test at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Sunday.

Four of the hosts' last five batters scored more than 30 runs to help the side reach 424 in the first innings, in reply to India A's 346. The visitors reduced the deficit to 46 thanks to an unbeaten opening stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan, who negotiated a tricky final hour of play.

Matt Boyle and Dean Foxcroft had put NZ-A on track with a partnership worth more than 200. But centurion Boyle departed early on Day 3, nicking Mohammed Siraj to the slips.

Foxcroft held firm with Mitchell Hay for support but once the India A bowlers got their hands on the new ball, both had to make their way back to the pavillion.

But the effect of the ball did not linger for long, as the tail-enders were able to safely negotiate extended periods of play. The final wicket stand between Jayden Lennox and Jarrod McKay swelled to 55 before Washington Sundar managed to breach the latter's defences. Mukesh Kumar picked a five-wicket haul, while Siraj contributed four.

The India A openers held fort amid fading light to ensure the team has all 10 wickets in the bag heading into the final day. The duo will hope to wipe out the 46-run deficit quickly before putting pressure on the opponent with runs on the board.
