HOW SHEETAL STUNNED THE WORLD IN NAGOYA
Sheetal took the archery range by storm during Thursday, October 22, when she won two gold medals in the matter of just a couple of hours.
The triumph came less than two hours after she partnered Toman Kumar to win the compound mixed team title, taking her overall medal tally at the Games to three.
Competing at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square, the reigning world champion showed tremendous composure to recover from a four-point deficit and overcome Singapore's Alim in a closely fought contest.
The Indian faced an uphill battle after Alim established a four-point lead over the opening two ends, each comprising six arrows. With the Singaporean building momentum, Sheetal needed a strong response to turn the final around.
She produced precisely that, finding the target with six 10-point shots, including three Xs, across the next two ends. The stunning sequence swung the contest in her favour, giving her a two-point cushion heading into the decisive final three arrows.
With the gold medal within reach, Sheetal maintained her composure and registered 27 points with three consecutive 9s. Alim could manage only 26, shooting a 9, an 8 and another 9, as the Indian sealed the title with a superb late surge.
Sheetal has also underlined her desire to take part in the LA Olympics in the able-bodied category as well.
