Journalist P.T. Bopanna launched his twelfth book, 'Who are the Kodavas (Coorgs)?', which explores the community's origins. The work uses the first genetic study of the group, led by Professor B.K. Thelma. Bopanna said, "The genetic study of Kodavas has not only attempted to resolve the question around the origin."
A new book titled 'Who are the Kodavas (Coorgs)?' written by journalist and author P.T. Bopanna has been launched.
A statement by the author said the book, which decodes the mystery of the origin of the Kodavas, is based on the first genetic study of the community.
The credit for providing these early scientific leads to the puzzle should go to Coorg-born Professor Buttiyanda Kuttapa Thelma, widely known as B.K. Thelma, whose team comprised scientists from the University of Delhi South Campus and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, the statement said.
"The genetic study of Kodavas has not only attempted to resolve the question around the origin of Kodavas, but has also thrown insight into Indian population genetics, demonstrating that even small, tight-knit communities may harbour vast genetic complexities, shaped by centuries of migration, isolation and social customs," the statement added.
This is senior journalist Bopanna's twelfth book. For more details, contact 9342430141.
