Anthropic is offering fellowships worth up to Rs 1.39 crore for researchers to work on its Claude AI models. These four-month programmes run from January 12 to May 8, 2027. Experts in science or reasoning can apply by October 28, 2026, to help improve how these systems solve complex problems.

Anthropic is inviting researchers and subject experts to work on difficult scientific and reasoning problems using its artificial intelligence models, Claude. The company has opened two fellowship programmes for 2027, offering compensation ranging from USD 100,000 to USD 167,000 (approximately Rs 83 lakh to Rs 1.39 crore) for four months.

The fellowships will run from January 12 to May 8, 2027. They are designed for experienced researchers who can help test what AI models can do, identify where they fall short and explore how they can be improved.

The deadline to apply for both programmes is October 28, 2026.

TWO FELLOWSHIPS, TWO DIFFERENT PATHS

The programmes focus on different areas of expertise.

1. Conceptual Reasoning Fellowship

This programme is for experts in philosophy, cognitive science, economics, policy and law. Fellows will work with Anthropic's research teams to assess Claude's reasoning, identify complex problems and develop tests to measure how well the model handles questions requiring expert judgement.

Applicants must hold or be completing a PhD in a relevant subject, or have equivalent research experience. Hands-on experience using Claude and Claude Code in their daily work is required.

2. Anthropic STEM Fellowship

This programme is open to researchers in science and engineering. Fellows will use Claude to investigate difficult research questions, develop datasets and simulations, and test the model's ability to solve problems in their fields.

Applicants must hold a PhD in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics field and have several years of experience, such as postdoctoral research or faculty work. Previous machine-learning experience is helpful but not compulsory.
