The veteran BJP leader expresses the confidence that party candidate K.M. Suresh will win the Council elections by a huge margin

The former Chief Minister and veteran BJP leader B.S. Yediyurappa campaigned for BJP-Janata Dal(S) alliance nominee for the South-East Graduates Constituency of the Legislative Council K.M. Suresh in Davangere on Sunday.

Mr. Yediyurappa expressed the confidence that Mr Suresh will win the Council elections by a huge margin in the first round of counting.

Speaking at the Shamanur Shivashankarappa Community Hall, Mr. Yediyurappa said that the Congress government in the State has failed on all fronts, including drought mitigation, law and order management, employment generation and all-round development.

"The Congress made several promises before coming to power but it has failed to fulfil them. Public anger will reflect in this election, against the corrupt, anti-people and anti-farmer actions of the Congress," he said.

He urged voters to teach the Congress a lesson. The Congress is also involved in several scams. It has run out of funds. And, it cannot even provide diesel for KSRTC buses. But it is blaming the Union government to hide its own failures, he said.

He said that party leader G.M. Siddeshwar could not attend the meeting as he had to go to Bengaluru on urgent work and urged workers not to misunderstand his absence.

Party MP Govind Karjol said that Congress has ruled for most of the post-Independence period but is now targeting constitutional agencies like the Election Commission and the judiciary.

He said that the Congress kept Dalits and minorities in fear only to use them as vote-banks. He urged voters to support BJP candidates to strengthen the hands of Mr. Yediyurappa and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
