A 30-year-old man in Gurugram is suspected of killing his wife before dying by suicide, after sending an email to his employer stating, “We are leaving this world”.
The bodies of Mohammad Aslam and his wife, Farhana, were found in their rented apartment at the M3M Marina residential society on Wednesday, which was also Farhana’s birthday.
Aslam reportedly sent the email to his employer at around 7 am, sharing the phone numbers of his family members and the landlord. His colleagues alerted the landlord, who subsequently reached the couple’s apartment in Tower 7 of the society.
The landlord found Aslam hanging inside the flat, while Farhana was lying dead on the floor with injuries on her neck. The apartment door was found open when the landlord arrived, according to the initial account of the incident.
SUICIDE NOTE RECOVERED FROM APARTMENT
During the inspection of the flat, investigators recovered a note bearing the message, “We are leaving this world”. The words “I love you” were also found handwritten on Farhana’s clothes.
Police seized three laptops, two mobile phones, a rope, a diary, a pair of scissors and a pen drive from the scene. The items have been sent for forensic examination as investigators attempt to establish the sequence of events leading to the couple’s deaths.
Based on the preliminary findings, police suspect that Aslam killed Farhana before taking his own life. A murder case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation.
COUPLE HAD MOVED TO GURUGRAM THREE MONTHS AGO
Aslam and Farhana, both technology professionals, hailed from Kerala and had moved to Gurugram from Bengaluru around three months ago. The couple married in 2023.
Aslam was an alumnus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Calicut, and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore. Farhana was also employed with an IT firm and worked from home.
According to family members, the couple shared a close bond, and no marital discord had come to light.
However, Aslam had reportedly been undergoing treatment for depression for around one-and-a-half years.
Relatives have suggested that excessive work pressure in the IT sector may have contributed to the incident.
However, this remains a possibility raised by the family and has not been established as the cause of the deaths.
The Badshahpur police are investigating the case and examining the evidence recovered from the apartment.
Further details are awaited as investigators work to determine the circumstances that led to the deaths.
