New Delhi: CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were arrested following a flash protest at Jantar Mantar, have been granted bail. The bail was granted by a Special Executive Magistrate after six days in custody.

Das and Ranka were arrested by Delhi Police on October 13 following a flash protest organised by CJP against the exclusion of Jantar Mantar from the list of designated protest sites. The leaders led the protest after entering Jantar Mantar, which had been sealed off with extensive barricades, evading police surveillance.

The leaders were produced before a court the following day, and the Special Executive Magistrate's court at Mandir Marg remanded them to five days of judicial custody. They were subsequently shifted to Tihar Jail. However, even after five days, the court did not take up their bail applications yesterday. CJP had strongly protested against the delay.

The charges against them include trespassing, violating prohibitory orders, breaching a peace bond and obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties.

Earlier, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka had been detained along with Abhijeet Deepke while travelling on a flight. They were later released with conditions.
