Renewing his challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an open debate, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said 24 hours had passed since he dared the PM to partake in an open discussion on a gamut of 'important' issues.

Urging the youth to respond to whether they want to see an open debate, the Congress leader doubled down on his challenge by seeking a public response -- " Youth of India, Do you want to see a Rahul Gandhi vs Narendra Modi open debate?," Gandhi wrote.

Extending the challenge through a video clip on X (formerly twitter), the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha questioned the Centre's handling of the US trade deal, the involvement of the cabinet in important 'national' and 'bilateral' issues.

The former Congress president also challenged the PM to respond to allegations that the opposition had links with foreign forces, saying the discussion could be held at any venue in the presence of the media and the country's youth.

In a post on X, Gandhi said 24 hours had passed since he issued the challenge to Modi, urging him to choose a venue and agree to a public debate. "Who is the anti-national? Who has connections with foreign forces? And what kind of connections are they? Do it as soon as possible—don't be afraid," Gandhi quipped.

Rahul proposed that the debate be held in the presence of the media and the country's youth, with both leaders seated across a table. He also said PM Modi could choose the person who would moderate or judge the discussion, suggesting RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for the role. He said the discussion would also provide an opportunity to address allegations levelled against him by the prime minister and the ruling establishment.

“We'll both be there, the media will be there, the youth of the country will be there, there'll be a table, you'll sit on one side, I'll sit on the other. Whoever you want to appoint as judge, go ahead. Put Mohan Bhagwat ji in the chair, come on. And then we'll debate,” he added.

Rahul also referred to the defamation cases filed against him over other issues and challenged the Prime Minister to take legal action over his allegations of foreign connections.
