Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would face justice and pay the price for alleged "vote chori", as he joined the party's concluding 'Goy Rakhonn' (Save Goa) Yatra in Goa.
Gandhi walked two kilometres with Congress workers and leaders in Margao during the mass outreach campaign, which began on September 22, covering all 40 Assembly constituencies in the coastal state.
"The entire country knows that CEC Gyanesh Kumar implements 'vote chori' and Amit Shah and PM Modi back him," he said while addressing a public meeting in Margao.
Gandhi said the Congress was a protector of the Constitution, adding that Modi, Shah and Gyanesh Kumar knew they could not escape from the party. "PM Modi, Amit Shah and CEC Gyanesh Kumar will face justice and pay the price for what they have done," he added.
Gandhi also said India had once had a world-class education system, but pellet guns were now being used against student protesters.
Gandhi arrived at Dabolim airport on Sunday afternoon to participate in the yatra. He was joined by AICC Goa desk in-charge Manikrao Thakare, co-in-charge Dr Anjali Nimbalkar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar, among others.
The 27-day Goy Rakhonn Yatra, led by Alemao and Chodankar, culminated on Sunday. The campaign, whose name means a campaign to protect Goa, aimed to strengthen the Congress's grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
The party said the yatra sought to safeguard Goa's land, environment, cultural heritage and identity.
During the campaign, the Congress raised concerns over land conversion, alleged land grabbing, unemployment, corruption, public safety and the preservation of the state's distinctive social and cultural identity. It also sought to engage with local communities and bring development-related concerns to the forefront of political debate.
The campaign comes ahead of the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, with the Congress seeking to mobilise support across constituencies, including those represented by the ruling BJP.
