The statue was seen till Thursday evening installed in front of Jiagunge Sripat Singh College: Reports

BERHAMPORE: A statue of global Communist icon Lenin was found missing at Jiagunge in Murshidabad of West Bengal on Friday morning. CPI(M) and other Left parties blamed the ruling BJP for disappearing the statue on Thursday night for political vendetta. BJP however denied its role.

The statue was seen till Thursday evening installed in front of Jiagunge Sripat Singh College. Finding it removed from the base on Friday morning, Murshidabad district CPI(M) secretary Jamir Mollah alleged that though religious fanatics of BJP were earlier arrested for vandalising Lenin's statue, they repeated the act.

"But they should remember they will never be able to wipe out Lenin's worldwide ideology," he claimed. State backward classes welfare department minister and Murshidabad MLA Gouri Shankar Ghosh condemned the incident but rejected the allegations against his party.

He said, "BJP never believes in vandalising the installations of national or foreign great leaders and icons whoever they may be. I think that the opposition parties like CPI(M) and Congress have committed this heinous act to malign BJP in my constitutiency. I request the police to arrest the culprits immediately at any cost irrespective of their political affiliations."
