A division bench led by Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi adjourned Mr. Khan’s petition challenging the notice till Monday at 3:00 p.m. The court recorded an oral assurance from Additional Solicitor General Anil C. Singh, appearing for the Centre, that the notice would be kept in abeyance, and directed a stay until the next hearing.
The order allows Mr. Khan to remain in India beyond the October 28 deadline specified in the notice.
During Tuesday’s (October 27) proceedings, the bench initially granted 10 minutes for the Solicitor General to appear and took up another matter before reconvening. Senior advocate Venkatesh Dhond appeared for Mr. Khan.
Imran Khan, a U.S. citizen and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, had approached the High Court challenging the notice issued following his alleged participation in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at August Kranti Maidan on October 10.
