A 31-year-old man died after falling from the 21st floor of a Greater Noida society on Monday evening. Harshit Lavania fell while trying to move to a lower balcony to avoid his estranged wife. Police said he lost his footing during the attempt. An investigation into the incident is underway.
A visit from his estranged wife ended in tragedy for a 31-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida, who died after falling from the 21st floor of a residential society on Monday evening. The man, identified as Harshit Lavania, was allegedly trying to move out of his flat through a balcony towards the floor below when he lost his footing and fell.
The incident took place at Centurion Park Tropical Garden Society, under the Bisrakh police station limits in Greater Noida West. According to the police, Lavania lived alone in a rented flat in the society and worked at a company.
WIFE ARRIVED AT FLAT, MAN DID NOT OPEN DOOR
According to information provided by Bisrakh police, Lavania married in 2024, but disputes between the couple began soon after the wedding. His wife had been living separately for around six months, while Lavania continued to stay alone in his rented flat.
On Monday evening, his wife arrived at the flat and knocked on the door. Lavania was inside but did not open it. He reportedly feared that opening the door could lead to another argument with his wife.
She then called out to him from outside and tried to speak to him, but he refused to engage in a conversation. His wife subsequently brought security personnel to the flat and attempted to get the door opened.
MAN SLIPPED WHILE TRYING TO EXIT THROUGH BALCONY
During this time, Lavania reportedly came out through the balcony and tried to make his way out via the balcony of the flat on the floor below. However, he allegedly lost his footing and fell from the building.
He sustained serious injuries in the fall. Residents of the society rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the incident, Lavania's father, Amitabh Lavania, and other family members arrived at the spot. His family members said he had been under mental stress for some time because of the ongoing dispute with his wife.
POLICE EXAMINING CCTV FOOTAGE
Bisrakh police said an investigation into the incident was underway. The police are speaking to Lavania's wife and examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in the society to establish the sequence of events.
Police said no complaint had been received in the case so far. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
