Former MLA Rachamallu Sivaprasad Reddy got placed under house arrest in Proddatur on Thursday. The YSRCP leader faced this action after he made remarks threatening other candidates. The TDP complained to the State Election Commission, saying he tried to terrorize people. Many local leaders said he feared an imminent defeat.

Tension gripped Proddatur in Kadapa district as the TDP countered the alleged coercive speech given by YSRCP State spokesperson and former MLA Rachamallu Sivaprasad Reddy. The YSRCP leader was placed under house arrest following his alleged remarks threatening other candidates on Thursday.

Accusing the TDP-led NDA alliance leaders of preventing his party candidates from filing nomination as ward members to the Proddatur municipality in a bid to make it a unanimous victory, Mr. Reddy had openly warned the district and police officials of dire consequences after the party coming to power in 2029.

In a video release, he had allegedly appealed to his detractors to kill him, or face vengeful action upon coming to power.

TDP youth leader Nandyala Konda Reddy, the son of the local MLA N. Varadarajulu Reddy, flayed Rachamallu for his controversial speech and urged him to file the nominations instead of giving 'tall talk'.

Referring to the former MLA's wife Rachamallu Ramadevi also withdrawing her nomination filed as a ward member, Konda Reddy claimed that it clearly showed the party's fearing of imminent defeat while still pushing the blame onto the ruling party.

TDP moves SEC

Meanwhile, the TDP central office has written to the State Election Commission (SEC) to take action against Rachamallu Sivaprasad Reddy for attempting to terrorise the candidates in fray.
