HYDERABAD: The Congress will step up its campaign for the two graduate MLC constituencies in Telangana after Dasara, with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy scheduled to meet ministers, MPs, MLCs and MLAs from the Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Mahbubnagar, Warangal, Nalgonda and Khammam districts, where polling will be held, on October 23 to finalise the party's election strategy.
The meeting is expected to focus on strengthening coordination among elected representatives, monitoring voter enrolment and preparing a constituency-wise campaign plan ahead of the polls.
The Congress has already announced its candidates for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda (WKN) and Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahbubnagar (HRM) graduates constituencies, which are scheduled to go to the polls in early 2027. The Congress leadership has appointed ministers from the respective districts as incharges to coordinate the campaign and ensure the party's victory in both seats.
Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has been entrusted with responsibility for the WKN constituency, and health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha the HRM constituency. The party has also assigned MLAs, MLCs and MPs the responsibility of coordinating voter enrolment with the assistance of local leaders and party cadre.
The six-year terms of the incumbent MLCs from both constituencies will end in March 2027. The Election Commission is currently undertaking the voter enrolment process, with electoral rolls being prepared afresh by taking November 1, 2026, as the qualifying date. Even those who had registered previously will have to enrol again.
Applicants must have completed a degree or an equivalent diploma at least three years before the qualifying date and be ordinary residents of the relevant Graduates constituency.
According to the schedule, draft electoral rolls will be published on November 25, 2026, and the final rolls on December 30, 2026. The Election Commission is expected to issue the notification for the elections in January 2027.
Revanth Reddy held a preliminary meeting with ministers and senior party leaders earlier this week to review the Congress's preparedness for the elections. He reportedly told the leaders that the party must win both seats to demonstrate its political supremacy in Telangana and entrusted the responsibility of securing victories to the ministers concerned.
