The nationwide protests followed Kharge's remarks at an event in Patna on Sunday to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Shrikrishna Singh, Bihar's first chief minister. While speaking at the programme, Kharge said the Congress would send those involved in alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process to jail. During his speech, an audience member interrupted him and said, "Modi won't go anywhere." Kharge responded, "Modi ka baap bhi jayega, baap bhi jayega," triggering a political controversy. In Bihar, BJP leaders and supporters, led by state unit president Sanjay Saraogi, took out a 'Jan Akrosh March' from the party headquarters to Dak Bungalow Chauraha in Patna and burnt an effigy of Kharge. "Yesterday, all limits were crossed when the platform to celebrate the birth anniversary of Shrikrishna Singh, the architect of modern Bihar, was used to make abusive remarks about the late father of the Prime Minister," Saraogi said. He also accused the Congress of repeatedly facing electoral defeats and urged the party and the opposition INDIA bloc to "mend their ways".
