CJP’s Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka got five days of judicial custody in a trespassing case. Delhi Police arrested them after they went to Jantar Mantar. Meanwhile, officials said Ramlila Maidan, a new protest site, has no free dates for two and a half months, except for three December days.
CJP leader Ajinjya Shinde, says, “You may know that Ashutosh, Saurav Das and I, along with volunteers from CJP, went to Jantar Mantar. We simply waved the Indian national flag and raised the slogan of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. For this, the dictatorial Modi-Shah government has sent Saurav and Ashutosh to jail for five days.
For decades, Jantar Mantar served as the epicentre of public demonstrations in New Delhi. On October 12, 2026, Delhi Police de-notified Jantar Mantar as an official protest venue under a standing order issued by Commissioner Anurag Kumar. Demonstrations have now been shifted to three alternative venues: Ramlila Ground, CBD Ground (East Delhi), and Burari Ground (North Delhi).
On Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah says, “You cannot become the voice of the nation merely by mobilizing the cadres of fourteen parties to gather a crowd of eight thousand within a span of one and a half kilometers. I urge the Congress party to realize that the voice of the nation also resides in the fields and farms, in the villages, in remote hills and forests, and along the riverbanks—areas where you have no reach.”
Ramlila Maidan, designated as one of the three new protest sites in the capital, has no free dates for the next two and a half months. Only December 29, 30 and 31 are open for booking, according to officials.
The 12-acre ground, which can accommodate 50,000 people, can now be booked only for the three dates towards the end of the years, officials in the know said.
“The booking rate for the ground is ₹50,000 per day, plus a ₹55,000 security deposit that is refundable. The initial outlay including taxes comes to ₹1.21 lakh for a day’s booking,” an official said.
