New Delhi: INDIA bloc leaders are scheduled to hold their public impeachment programme against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday at 3.30 pm at 10, Rajaji Marg, the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The programme was postponed from Friday due to rainfall in the national capital. Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi announced the rescheduling, saying the decision was taken unanimously to avoid inconvenience to senior leaders.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Rahul Gandhi said the programme would be held at the same time on Saturday, adding that it would be uncomfortable for senior leaders to sit in the rain.
He also invited political parties, civil society representatives, journalists and citizens to participate in the INDIA bloc's march to Ramlila Maidan on November 1.
Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP-led government of undermining Indian democracy, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and CEC Gyanesh Kumar were responsible for what he described as electoral irregularities.
He further alleged that the Home Minister was attempting to prevent people from travelling to Delhi to attend the rally, particularly those coming from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Telangana and Punjab.
The Congress leader said the turnout at the November 1 demonstration would reflect public anger over the alleged disenfranchisement of voters and manipulation of electoral processes.
He also accused the BJP leadership and industrialists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani of benefiting from the alleged electoral irregularities.
Describing the planned demonstrations as a united Opposition effort, Rahul Gandhi said INDIA bloc parties were coming together to defend the Constitution, democratic values and citizens' right to vote.
Ahead of the scheduled programme, several INDIA bloc leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Pawan Khera, KC Venugopal and Jairam Ramesh, had gathered at Kharge's residence for a meeting.
