United States President Donald Trump waived Russia-related energy sanctions that threatened 100% tariffs on India. Trump said, "I am hereby waiving the application of such sanctions, restrictions, and duties provided for in the Graham Act." He got this done because he said the move was in the national interest.
United States President Donald Trump has waived tariffs related to Russian energy exports under a law that he signed last month, saying it was in the "national interest" of America.
The US President invoked the waiver clause under the law, championed by late Senator Lindsey O Graham as a way to bring punitive measures against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.
"I am hereby waiving the application of such sanctions, restrictions, and duties provided for in the Graham Act. I have submitted to the Congress a certification that the issuance of such a waiver at this time is in the national interests of the United States," Trump said in the executive order regarding the waiver, Bloomberg reported.
