The Supreme Court on Monday sought a response from the Enforcement Directorate on a bail plea filed by Anil Mithas. He is the main promoter of a Noida-based real estate company. The case involves the alleged diversion of Rs 126.30 crore belonging to homebuyers. Mithas got into custody on April 16, 2025.

The Supreme Court on Monday sought a response from the Enforcement Directorate on a bail plea filed by Anil Mithas, the main promoter of a Noida-based real estate company, in a money-laundering case involving the alleged diversion of Rs 126.30 crore belonging to homebuyers, news agency Press Trust of India reported.

Mithas has challenged the Allahabad High Court's September 16 order rejecting his bail application.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate on his plea.

In its order, the high court had said: “White-collar crime has grown too pervasive and too costly to be met with anything less than firm, uncompromising enforcement. Corporate fraud, embezzlement, insider trading, and large-scale financial deception routinely destroy pensions, savings, and livelihoods on a scale that dwarfs the damage caused by many street crimes, yet offenders have often faced comparatively lenient sentences, fines their companies can absorb as a cost of doing business, or plea deals that avoid real accountability.”

The high court said that, after hearing lawyers for both sides and considering the allegation that Mithas had diverted Rs 126.30 crore belonging to various allottees, it did not find the case suitable for granting him bail.

According to Press Trust of India, the case relates to allegations that Mithas diverted money collected from homebuyers by Unnati Fortune Holdings Ltd for its Aranya project. The allegations led the Enforcement Directorate to begin money-laundering proceedings.

Mithas was taken into custody on April 16, 2025.

The money-laundering case arose from first information reports filed by a Special Investigation Team formed by the Uttar Pradesh government against Unnati Fortune Holdings Ltd and its promoters over allegations of cheating and fraud.

The Supreme Court will consider Mithas's challenge to the denial of bail after receiving the Enforcement Directorate's response in the case concerning the alleged diversion of homebuyers' funds.
