VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh BJP president P.V.N. Madhav has urged the Centre to depute an assessment team to evaluate the damage caused by severe cyclonic storm Murasu in the state and extend necessary assistance.
In a letter to Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday, Madhav sought an assessment of the ground-level situation and support through the concerned central ministries and departments under applicable guidelines and disaster management provisions.
He sought relief and recovery assistance for farmers who suffered extensive crop losses, including support under existing agricultural schemes and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.
Madhav also urged the Centre to assess damage to roads, irrigation systems, electricity networks and other essential infrastructure and provide assistance for their restoration.
He called for effective coordination between the Centre and the state government to ensure timely assistance to affected families, farmers and rural communities and help restore their livelihoods.
Madhav said Andhra Pradesh had been affected by two successive cyclones, ‘Arnab’ and ‘Murasu’, causing extensive damage in several districts.
