The National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the examination city list for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2027, introducing changes that candidates should review before submitting their application forms. The updated list includes three newly added cities, while several locations available during the previous examination cycle have been discontinued. The number of examination city entries has also declined from 323 in 2026 to 310 in 2027, including centres in India and abroad. According to the figures provided, the number of examination cities in India has decreased from 308 in 2026 to 301 in 2027. The number of international examination city entries has also fallen, from 15 in the previous year to nine for the upcoming examination cycle.
As part of the application process, candidates must select four examination cities in their order of preference. NTA will allot an examination centre in one of the cities selected by the applicant, subject to the agency's allocation process and the availability of examination centres.
Removed Examination Cities
NTA has removed several Indian cities from the JEE Main 2027 examination city list compared with the previous year. In Andhra Pradesh, Adoni and Tadpatri are no longer included among the available examination locations. Haryana has seen the removal of Hisar, while Ballari and Chikaballapur have been dropped from the list for Karnataka. Khandwa has been removed in Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha will no longer have Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara on the examination city list. Suryapet has also been discontinued as an examination location in Telangana.
West Bengal has also seen a change, with Asansol removed from the list of examination cities for JEE Main 2027. Candidates from these locations who intend to appear for the entrance examination should check the available alternatives and select four preferred cities accordingly.
The changes also extend to examination locations outside India. Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, West Java, Washington DC and Munich have been removed from the list provided for JEE Main 2027.
New Examination Cities
While several locations have been discontinued, NTA has introduced three new cities to the JEE Main 2027 examination city list. Kalahandi and Sundergarh have been added in Odisha, while Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar has been included in Punjab.
One of the notable changes concerns Sundergarh in Odisha, which has been assigned the city code OR14. This code was previously associated with Kendrapara, which has been removed from the JEE Main 2027 examination city list. Candidates should pay attention to the updated city names and codes when completing their applications to ensure that they select the intended examination locations.
Candidates should verify the complete list of examination cities before registering, particularly if they are planning to select a newly added location. They should also ensure that the city codes entered or selected in the application correspond to the correct locations in the official information bulletin.
