SPSR Nellore district officials have rescued seven fishermen who ventured into the sea near Juvvaladinne village in Kavali constituency on Monday (November 2, 2026) morning. They were brought safely to shore after their boat’s engine broke down at sea. Fishermen had been advised not to venture into the sea in view of Cyclone Murasu.
Speaking to the media, District Collector Himanshu Shukla said, “Seven fishermen who had set out for a fishing trip from Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour noticed changes in the sea conditions while off the coast of Nellore and attempted to return to the harbour. However, their boat’s engine broke down en route, leaving them stranded at sea. Surveillance personnel on duty at the harbour spotted this and immediately alerted the relevant authorities.”
The boat’s anchor snapped, and because of the strong waves, the vessel drifted towards Patakadapalem village in Bogole mandal of the district. The officials of the Fisheries Department and the Marine Police responded immediately.
With the assistance of local fishermen, they initiated rescue efforts. Initially, reaching the boat proved difficult because of the high waves. Ultimately, they managed to bring the boat to the shore at Patakadapalem and ensured that all fishermen were safe.
The District Collector commended the Fisheries Department officials, Marine Police, surveillance personnel and local fishermen for their presence of mind and efforts in saving the lives of the fishermen.
He also advised the local fishermen to remain vigilant when facing adverse weather conditions at sea and to strictly follow the instructions provided by the authorities.
