NDRF, police, and revenue teams rescued 22 labourers stranded in the swollen Peddavagu stream on Wednesday evening. The workers got trapped after floodwaters washed away a bridge approach road following cyclone Murasu. Rescuers used a JCB machine to save them, and they later got food and medical care in Buttayigudem.

Twenty-two daily wage workers from Reddy Ganapavaram and Kanakapuram villages in Buttayigudem mandal of Eluru district were rescued by NDRF, revenue and police personnel after they were stranded in the swollen Peddavagu stream following heavy flows caused by cyclone Murasu on Wednesday evening.

The workers had completed their work in oil palm plantations and were crossing a bridge near Rowthugudem in Jeelugumilli mandal when they got trapped. The approach road to the bridge had been washed away by the floodwaters.

After being informed of the incident, district collector K. Vetri Selvi initiated rescue operations. NDRF personnel, along with local police and revenue staff, reached the spot and rescued the workers with the assistance of a JCB machine.

The workers were shifted to a cyclone relief centre in Buttayigudem, where they were provided with food and medical attention.
