Ten of the 19 municipalities where candidates faced obstruction while filing nominations are in the erstwhile Kadapa district. The Supreme Court intervened after the YSRC complained about the process. While the State Election Commission praised the Kadapa collector for smooth conduct, these complaints showed that many candidates got blocked instead.

Ten of the 19 municipalities in Andhra Pradesh where candidates allegedly faced obstruction while filing nominations are in the erstwhile Kadapa district, according to complaints raised over the municipal election process.

The Supreme Court intervened after the YSRC complained that candidates had been prevented from filing nominations in 19 municipalities across the state. Ten of the municipalities listed are in the erstwhile Kadapa district.

They are Mydukur, Kamalapuram, Yerraguntla, Rayachoti, Kadapa, Rajampet, Pulivendula, Badvel, Proddatur and Jammalamadugu.

Rayalaseema accounts for 14 of the 19 municipalities. Besides the 10 in the erstwhile Kadapa district, the list includes Tadipatri and Gooty in Anantapur district, Punganur in Chittoor district and Tirupati in Tirupati district. The remaining five municipalities are in Palnadu and Markapuram districts.

The development comes four days after the State Election Commission reportedly praised Kadapa collector Cherukuri Sridhar for the smooth conduct of the nomination process in the district.

The Supreme Court’s intervention following the reported appreciation has brought renewed attention to complaints that candidates were prevented from filing nominations in several municipalities, particularly in the erstwhile Kadapa district.
