Silver anklet units in Salem received a good amount of orders for this year’s Deepavali. Association president C. Sree Anandharajan said, “Compared to last year’s Deepavali, this year, silver anklets received over 45% of orders, through which workers got jobs.” Lower silver prices helped many shops place orders across India.

Salem

The silver anklet units in the Salem district received a good amount of orders for this year’s Deepavali festival compared to last year.

Silver anklet manufacturing is one of the important occupations in Salem district through which around one lakh people are getting jobs directly or indirectly. More than 1,000 silver anklet manufacturing units are functioning in Shevapet, Sivathapuram, Kondalampatti, Maniyanoor, Ponnammapet, Elampillai, Steel Plant, Jahir Ammapalayam, Nethimedu, Dadagapatti, Solampallam, Panankadu, Sooramangalam and Gugai.

Due to volatility in silver bullion prices, silver anklet units and their workers lost jobs for the past one year as the price fluctuated between ₹2.30 lakh and ₹4 lakh per kg. Due to the West Asia crisis, the silver price was increased, which resulted in poor orders from the public and jewellery shops. During the 2025 Deepavali festival season, the silver anklet units got around 25% of orders. However, this year, the manufacturers claim that orders have nearly doubled.

Salem Silver Anklet Manufacturers Handicraft Welfare Association president C. Sree Anandharajan said that compared to last year’s Deepavali, this year, silver anklets received over 45% of orders, through which workers got jobs. Due to investors investing in crude oil across the globe, the price of silver reduced to ₹2.05 lakh in November 2026.

As the silver price reduced, jewellery shops and people placed orders for the festival from last month, and in the last 15 days, more orders were received from shops in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka. After many months, silver anklet workers got the job for the past one month and manufacturers also saw positive growth in the business, Mr. Anandharajan added.

Stating that the price of silver would not reduce further, Mr. Anandharajan said the situation looks like the West Asia crisis is going to end. If that happens, investors across the globe again start to invest in silver and gold.
