Angel One will roll out US stock investing to all customers in 45 days. CEO Ambarish Kenghe said, "We have started rolling out to a select set of customers." The firm also plans to launch corporate bonds within a fortnight, as it expands its financial services beyond core stock broking.
Angel One has begun a phased rollout of US stock investing to select customers and is very bullish on customer interest in the product, group CEO Ambarish Kenghe told Moneycontrol. "We have started rolling out to a select set of customers. We look at it, and if everything is stable, we will roll out to all of the customers over the next 45 days," Kenghe said. The brokerage is looking to expand its investment offerings beyond domestic equities and tap demand for overseas investments. Groww had also begun a phased rollout of US stock investing fortnight ago. Incidentally, Zerodha has launched US stocks for its customers on October 19. "We see a lot of interest in that because it is also about geographical diversification. So I see that doing well," he said. The company had earlier secured a Global Access Provider (GAP) licence in the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), which enables it to facilitate access to US stocks through the GIFT City framework. Kenghe said the company was excited about the opportunity, given the differences between the Indian and US equity markets. "I am generally excited about US stocks because there is a very interesting sort of dynamics between US stocks and Indian stocks and how sometimes they go in tune, sometimes they don't," he said. The US stock offering is part of Angel One's broader effort to build out its wealth and investment businesses as it seeks to diversify its revenue streams. Kenghe said work was underway on the bond offering, and it will be launched within the next fortnight. The company had earlier secured an Online Bond Platform Provider (OBPP) licence from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), to offer corporate bonds through an online platform. Angel One has been expanding beyond its core broking business into wealth management, mutual fund distribution and other financial services. Its wealth management assets under management (AUM) stood at Rs 16,000 crore, growing 160 percent year-on-year, Kenghe said. AUM at its asset management company grew 40 percent over the same period. The company is also looking to broaden its mutual fund business. Kenghe said Angel One currently offers passive investment products through its asset management business and is looking at building a more comprehensive offering. The expansion comes as brokerages seek to deepen customer relationships by offering a wider range of financial products, rather than relying primarily on trading activity. For Angel One, access to overseas equities and bonds could provide additional investment options for customers while supporting its push into wealth-related services.
