Producer Rajan Shahi called for mindful Diwali celebrations to fight rising pollution levels. He said, “The best thing we can give our families, children and parents is clean air and a life free from noise pollution.” He urged people to burst fewer crackers and follow stricter rules for better health.

Producer Rajan Shahi, known for shows such as Anupamaa and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, calls for mindful celebrations and stricter measures against pollution.

With air quality and noise pollution recurring concerns during the festive season each year, producer Rajan Shahi believes cleaner celebrations can no longer be optional. Known for shows such as Anupamaa and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, he calls for stricter laws against firecrackers and noise pollution. He says, “It is not only the need of the hour but has now become absolutely necessary. Strict legal rules should be implemented immediately.” Pointing to climate change, Rajan says ecological damage is affecting people. He says, “There is global warming, and we are seeing natural disasters. Today, it could be us; tomorrow, it could be another country or someone else being devastated by these climate changes.” He believes protecting the environment means safeguarding one’s future. “Our lives could also change. Human beings have essentially been very selfish. Why aren’t they selfish about their own safety and their families?” he asks. For Rajan, the responsibility to reduce pollution should extend across religions and festivals. He says, “There should be a ban on crackers, noise pollution and air pollution across all religions, communities and festivities in India. We are suffering because poor air quality and noise pollution are causing sickness and serious health complications. Every festival, whether Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christian, should be about making lives better and spreading positivity. ” He believes clean air is among the most meaningful things people can offer their loved ones. He says, “The best thing we can give our families, children and parents is clean air and a life free from noise pollution. These laws must be strictly implemented, and people need to be educated about the consequences of pollution.” Rajan also points to television’s role in encouraging people to rethink their habits. He says, “In our shows, Anupamaa and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, we have always advocated the need to change our thinking and mentality. We will continue raising awareness through videos and encouraging people to burst fewer crackers. We have to lead by example.” While he believes the government must enforce regulations, he questions why the responsibility is placed entirely on the authorities. “Why should we put all the responsibility on the government? Why can’t individuals, irrespective of caste, community, creed, age group or social standing, come together and ask how we can make our planet a better place, not only for ourselves but also for the animals who have the first right on this planet?” he asks. He reminds people that loud celebrations affect animals and birds. “When we burst crackers, birds and animals can die because they accidentally eat the explosives. Noise pollution affects the health of humans as well as animals. I think we need to be more considerate,” he concludes.
