Actor Varun Dhawan joined Better Nutrition as an investor and brand ambassador on World Food Day 2026. He said, “I believed in this enough to invest in Better Nutrition and start biofortifying my own farm.” He wants to improve the nutritional value of everyday staples like atta, rice and dal.

Actor and investor Varun Dhawan is highlighting biofortification as a way to improve the nutritional value of everyday staples such as atta, rice and dal. On the occasion of World Food Day, the actor has spoken about his investment in Better Nutrition, a brand working with biofortified staples, and his efforts to explore the process on his own farm.

Explaining what drew him to the concept, Varun said, “I feel really proud to be part of something that could make a difference to India. When I first learnt about biofortification, I found the idea amazing. What if we could grow more nutrition into the atta, rice and dal we eat every day, right from the seed?”

He added, “I believed in this enough to invest in Better Nutrition and start biofortifying my own farm. Imagine if this could reach millions of Indian homes. I’d be really proud to have played a part in that.”

The actor has also shared a video on social media to explain the concept and encourage more people to learn about its potential role in improving nutrition.

What is biofortification?

Biofortification involves increasing the levels of specific nutrients in crops as they grow. Unlike conventional food fortification, which adds nutrients during processing, biofortification focuses on improving the nutritional content of crops themselves.

The approach can be applied to staple crops such as wheat, rice and millets, which form a regular part of diets across India. The idea is to improve the nutrient content of foods people already consume rather than requiring them to make significant changes to their eating habits.

In 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated 17 biofortified varieties across eight crops to the nation on World Food Day, highlighting their potential contribution to the country's nutritional security.

Varun Dhawan invests in Better Nutrition

Varun has invested in Better Nutrition, which offers biofortified staples, including atta, rice and dals, through its website and quick-commerce platforms. His involvement also extends to exploring biofortification on his own farm.

The initiative comes amid wider conversations around food quality and nutritional security. By drawing attention to the process, Varun hopes to encourage greater awareness of how the nutritional value of staple foods can be improved.
