The firing incident targeting Tiger Shroff in Mumbai has raised fresh concerns about the safety of Bollywood celebrities. Rakesh Bedi has called the incident shocking and urged the government to take immediate action to restore confidence in the film industry. In an exclusive conversation with Heena Gambhir for Times Now, the Dhurandhar actor spoke about the need for authorities to address such incidents. He also said that Tiger and his father, Jackie Shroff, have always maintained a non-controversial public image.
Speaking to Heena Gambhir, Rakesh Bedi said the firing incident had come as a shock to him. He explained that he knew Jackie Shroff personally and had also worked with him. Rakesh said both Jackie and Tiger were easygoing people who had stayed away from controversy.
"Jackie is an old friend of mine, and we have worked together. He is a very non-controversial, happy go lucky person and so is his son. So, this is very shocking for the film industry because that man has not been involved in anything as such. So I don't know if there's anything that is not visible to the eye. I do not know what Tiger’s connection was or whether he was going to work with Salman Khan in a film. I have no idea at all," he said.
Rakesh also spoke about the possible reasons behind such attacks on celebrities. He believes money could be one of the main motives, with extortion being a possible factor. However, he pointed out that there could be other reasons behind such incidents.
"I feel like money is the main issue. I think, to some extent, it is about extortion. But there is a thinking behind all this that this person is not aligning with our thinking. Sometimes it is not just about the money; there is an ideology which these people go by," Rakesh said.
During the conversation, Rakesh Bedi was asked whether the industry was returning to an era when incidents such as the killing of producer Gulshan Kumar had raised concerns about the safety of people in Bollywood. The actor said the situation was serious and required the attention of the authorities.
"This is a very serious matter. These are not merely verbal threats, where someone comes and says they will kill you or do something to you and then walks away. Shots have been fired and such incidents have happened before. The police, the government, and the relevant agencies must look into this and determine what can be done to maintain confidence in the film industry and maintain law and order in the city," he said.
Rakesh also spoke about how such incidents can affect celebrities in their everyday lives. "An atmosphere of fear does develop when a celebrity, an actor or any well-known person cannot step out of their house without worrying about their safety. It becomes a major restriction when you have to think about whether you have enough security, whether you should go out, and what time you should leave. You end up living in constant fear. How can a person work in such an environment?" he said.
