Ramayana song Mangal Rang, composed by AR Rahman, features Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi as Ram and Sita during their wedding celebrations.
The makers of Ramayana: Part 1 have unveiled a new song, Mangal Rang, weeks ahead of the film's worldwide theatrical release on November 5. Featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita, the track centres on their wedding and the celebrations that follow.
Composed by AR Rahman, Mangal Rang has been sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal, with lyrics penned by Kumar Vishwas. The video moves from Sita's swayamvar in Mithila to Ram and Sita's wedding before following the couple to Ayodhya.
The song is the latest musical release from Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, after Jai Jai Ram and Ravana Tandav.
Mangal Rang Shows Ram And Sita's Wedding
Mangal Rang begins in Mithila as preparations for Sita's swayamvar are underway. Ranbir's Ram arrives at the ceremony and is seen attempting to lift Lord Shiva's bow.
The video subsequently moves into the wedding festivities. Sai Pallavi's Sita walks towards the mandap accompanied by her three sisters, before the visuals depict Ram and Sita getting married.
Their journey continues after the ceremony as the newly married couple returns to Ayodhya and begins life together.
The song focuses primarily on the relationship between Ram and Sita, with the music and visuals built around their wedding, devotion and companionship.
AR Rahman On Composing Mangal Rang
Speaking about the song, Rahman said he wanted the music to retain the tenderness and purity associated with Ram and Sita's relationship.
"Ramayana is a story that has lived in the hearts of people for generations, and approaching it through music was a very special experience for me. There is a certain purity and tenderness in the relationship between Rama and Sita that I wanted the music to hold on to," he said.
"With Mangal Rang, I hope listeners feel that warmth and devotion, and find something personal in the melody. Some stories don't need to be explained; they simply need to be felt," Rahman added.
Arijit Singh Calls Singing The Track 'Deeply Transformative'
Arijit Singh, who shares playback duties with Shreya Ghoshal, described his experience of recording Mangal Rang as deeply transformative.
"Ramayana is not merely a story or an epic; it is a timeless reflection of life, our inner consciousness and the connection we share with everything around us. The melody of Mangal Rang, composed by A. R. Rahman sir, took me somewhere beyond words, into a space where love blossoms in its purest form," he said.
Arijit added that the relationship between Ram and Sita remained with him while recording the song.
"The sincerity and tenderness of the eternal relationship between Shri Ram and Mata Sita kept reminding me of the thread of love that connects us all, beyond everything that makes us seem different," he said.
The singer said he felt blessed to be associated with the project and hoped listeners experienced the same "love, gratitude and devotion" that he felt while singing it.
Shreya Ghoshal On Ram And Sita's Bond
Shreya Ghoshal also spoke about approaching the song through the emotional connection between the two characters.
"What makes Rama and Sita's love so beautiful is that it goes beyond the happiness of being together. There is faith, understanding and a quiet strength in their bond that makes it deeply moving," she said.
"Singing Mangal Rang allowed me to connect with that tenderness, and I approached it with a lot of love in my heart," Shreya added.
Ramayana To Release On November 5
Mangal Rang follows the previously released Jai Jai Ram and Ravana Tandav. Ramayana also marks the first collaboration between AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer, who makes his Indian cinema debut with the film.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi.
