Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash’s film Ramayana will arrive on JioHotstar around Christmas. The makers started a new pay per view model for this project. A source said, "Ramayana is likely to enter a pay per view deal with JioHotstar." Fans must pay extra to watch the big movie.

Ramayana, headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash, is defying norms every step of the way. Touted as the most expensive project in the history of Indian cinema, the Nitesh Tiwari directorial is now adapting a new strategy for its digital release. The first part of Ramayana, titled Rise Of A Legend, will not have a conventional OTT release like all other movies. In a first, the mythological epic will be exploring the pay per view model with a leading OTT giant.

In a conventional OTT release, once a movie arrives on a digital platform, a subscribed user can watch it any number of times without paying an extra fee. However, Ramyana is taking a different approach. A source close to the project told Zoom that Ramayana is likely to enter a pay per view deal with JioHotstar. This means that the film will not be included in the platform's regular subscription library for all subscribers. A user will need to a pay a fee it they want to watch Ramayana on JioHotsar.

The details about the fee amount and for how long the film will remain available to watch after payment are yet to be revealed. If implemented successfully, the strategy could mark a significant shift in how big Indian films approach their post-theatrical digital release.

Earlier, Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par had adopted the pay per view model. However, it was not on a major OTT platform but on YouTube. The film was later released on SonyLIV.

The source further mentioned that Ramayana is expected to have its digital premiere around Christmas. Backed by Namit Malhotra and Yash, it will have a window of six to eight weeks in theatres. The advance bookings have already started and the response has been encouraging thus far.

A two-part mythological epic, Ramayana will see its first instalment hit theatres on November 5. Mounted on a global scale, the film will see one of the biggest releases for an Indian film worldwide. The film has been dubbed in approximately 40 languages, including major Indian languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, alongside global languages such as English.
