Ramayana OTT Release: Ranbir Kapoor Film To Stream On JioHotstar On Pay-Per-View Basis | How To watch

Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana Rise of a Legend will stream on JioHotstar after its theatrical run through a pay-per-view option, Nita Ambani and Namit Malhotra have confirmed.

Ramayana OTT release: Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana: Rise of a Legend will be available to Indian viewers through a pay-per-view option on JioHotstar after its theatrical run, meaning audiences will have to purchase access separately rather than watch it as part of a regular streaming subscription. As per Hindustan Times, Ramayana OTT release is part of a partnership between JioHotstar and Prime Focus Studios, aimed at bringing the film to homes across the country after its big-screen debut.

The film is scheduled to release worldwide in theatres on November 5, 2026, coinciding with Diwali. It will also be screened in IMAX 3D, with the makers encouraging audiences to experience the epic on the biggest screen possible before it arrives online.

Nita Ambani on bringing Ramayana to Indian homes

Nita M. Ambani, chairperson of JioStar, said the partnership would help make the story accessible to families across India, including younger audiences who may be discovering the epic for the first time.

“Ramayana is one of India’s greatest civilisational treasures – a story that has shaped our conscience, inspired our imagination, and guided the way we live for centuries. As India enters a new era of storytelling, we have an extraordinary opportunity to carry our cultural legacy forward. At JioHotstar, our vision is to use technology to bring the finest stories within reach of every Indian. It is our privilege to present this grand cinematic vision of Ramayana to families across the country, and introduce a new generation to its eternal values of duty, love, courage, and goodness."

The pay-per-view model means viewers will be able to buy access to the film once its theatrical window ends. The source report states that the option will be available to audiences in India through a dedicated on-demand purchase feature on JioHotstar, rather than through a standard subscription.

Namit Malhotra explains why the digital release matters

Producer Namit Malhotra said the team wants audiences to watch Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana in IMAX 3D, but acknowledged that cinema infrastructure does not reach everyone who wants to see the story on screen. “I believe Ramayana should be experienced on the biggest screen possible, in IMAX 3D. But our country’s cinema infrastructure cannot reach everyone who holds this epic close. Ramayana belongs to every Indian, and our ambition must reflect that. JioHotstar has time and again shown how technology can bring a nation together through its sports and entertainment offering. That made them a natural partner to take Ramayana into people’s hands and living rooms, after its theatrical run," he added.

The partnership is intended to extend the film’s reach beyond cinemas while giving viewers the option to watch it at home. However, audiences will need to pay separately to access the film on the platform after its theatrical release.

Ramayana: Rise of the Legend cast and crew

Ramayana: Rise of a Legend is planned as a two-part live-action film series directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Shridhar Raghavan has adapted Valmiki’s epic for the screen, while Prime Focus Studios is producing the project alongside DNEG, the eight-time Academy Award-winning production and visual effects studio, and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations.

With its worldwide theatrical release set for Diwali 2026, the film will first be presented as a large-format cinematic experience before moving to digital viewing.
