Ram Gopal Varma received a 29.67 crore legal notice from Eclatant Films over a 2010 agreement. The production house warned OTT platforms and producers against working with him.

Ram Gopal Varma has several films lined up, but the filmmaker is now facing a legal dispute over an old agreement. The matter has also reached other people in the film industry, with a production house reportedly warning them about working with him.

According to a report by The Indian Express, Eclatant Films Private Limited has sent Varma a legal notice seeking ₹29.67 crore. The dispute is linked to an agreement signed in 2010. The production house has also warned producers, distributors and OTT platforms against doing business with the filmmaker or buying rights to films linked to him.

The dispute began with an agreement signed between Ram Gopal Varma and Eclatant Films on April 10, 2010. The agreement was reportedly upheld by the Bombay High Court on April 17, 2013. As per the agreement, Eclatant Films claims that Varma had to get its written No Objection Certificate (NOC) before working on certain films. This included projects where he worked as a producer, director, writer or co-producer.

The production house alleges that Varma did not follow these terms. It is now seeking ₹29.67 crore from him. According to The Indian Express, Eclatant Films sent the legal notice on October 15 and gave Varma until October 30 to pay the amount. The total includes the pending principal amount and ₹11.38 crore in interest.

The production house has reportedly taken the matter beyond the filmmaker. It has also contacted producers, distributors, broadcasters and OTT platforms, warning them against entering into business deals with Varma. Trade publications, including Complete Cinema, have reported that Eclatant Films has cautioned industry players against buying, streaming or using films associated with the filmmaker.

The production house has also warned that it could take further action if Varma does not clear the dues. It may invoke a contractual lien, which could allow it to claim rights, shares, financial interests and earnings from films covered under the 2010 agreement. This could affect the business deals involving films linked to Varma, depending on how the dispute moves forward.

While the legal matter continues, Varma has a few films in the pipeline. His next directorial is Police Company, a crime drama starring Harshvardhan Rane. The film is set to release in theatres on June 4, 2027. Based on true events and real-life characters, the film looks at the circumstances behind the killing of around 300 gangsters. The cast also includes Fardeen Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Paresh Rawal, Saurabh Shukla, Makarand Deshpande and Ashwini Kalsekar.

Varma is also working on Police Station Mein Bhoot, which stars Manoj Bajpayee. The film will mark their first project together since Sarkar 3.
