Pierce Brosnan gave his James Bond seal of approval to Callum Turner. The actor, who played 007 in four films, said, “Callum Turner is someone I’ve worked with, and he’s so strong.” While many names are on the list, Brosnan said he is eagerly awaiting the next Bond announcement soon.

Pierce Brosnan has given his James Bond seal of approval to Callum Turner.

The Irish actor — who played 007 across four films from 1995 to 2002 — told Vanity Fair in a new interview that he is “eagerly” awaiting the announcement of the next Bond like the rest of us, and could see Turner taking the role. Brosnan previously shared the screen with Turner in 2017’s “The Only Living Boy in New York.”

“Oh, I’m just an audience member now. I’m just the man in the street who is eager to see who is going to play this epic role of cinematic history,” Brosnan said when asked if he’s keeping up with the Bond chatter. “All the men who are on the list now are actors I admire. Callum Turner is someone I’ve worked with, and he’s so strong. They all have a voice and a physique, and a presence on film. They all have longevity as actors, all of these young men.”

As Variety reported, the other frontrunner appears to be “Slow Horses” star Jack Lowden and final auditions are believe to be taking place in London. Other names that have previously been floated include Josh O’Connor and Jacob Elordi.

Asked his advice for the next actor to don Bond’s dapper suit, Brosnan said: “Whoever plays the role, I wish him the very best of life and strength and courage. You know, it’s hard to tell who it would be, but I eagerly await to hear the news and the celebration of the next James Bond.”

Brosnan is particularly excited to see “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve’s take on the spy franchise. “I think we are going to be blown away. I really do,” he said. “[Villeneuve] is such an iconoclastic director. His work is visionary, and his stealth and imagination of camera work and storytelling is so visceral and sensuous. It’s going to be great. It’s going to be truly magnificent.”
