Jagran Film Festival 2026: Paresh Rawal HILARIOUSLY reveals why filmmakers rarely offer him art films: “They fear that main paisa zyada maang lunga; mujhe zyada paisa maangna bhi chahiye!”
Pastt Tense marks the first film in which Paresh Rawal and son Aditya Rawal have worked together in lead roles. Paresh Rawal was asked about how the casting happened. He clarified, “I didn’t make any suggestion in the cast. It was Ananth who took the call. Main nahin chahta tha ki log aisa bole ki bete ke saath baap bhi aa raha hain package deal mein!”
He added, “I signed the film as I liked the subject. Such films need to be supported. Moreover, I had worked with Ananth earlier, in The Storyteller (2025). Mujhe bahut mazaa aaya tha and I was very happy with the film. So, when I got a chance to do one more film with him, I grabbed the opportunity. Thirdly, mere naseeb mein iss tarah ki film bahut kam aati hain.”
The host asked if he meant that filmmakers rarely offer him arthouse films because he is perceived as a commercial actor. Paresh replied, “Yes. The makers assume that yeh film toh kar lega lekin paisa zyada maang lega! Aur mujhe zyada paisa maangna bhi chahiye (laughs)!”
On a serious note, he continued, “So yes, I got very few such opportunities. Hence, whenever I get, I grab it with both hands.”
