Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 continues to dominate, even as its daily box office numbers show a gradual decline. The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial has added another milestone to its impressive run, taking its worldwide gross past Rs 765 crore in 15 days. The sequel has already claimed the record of the highest-grossing Tamil film ever, surpassing the lifetime collection of 2.0. It has also moved well ahead of Rajinikanth’s previous release, Coolie, at the same point in its theatrical run. Here is a closer look at the film’s latest box office figures.
Jailer 2 earned Rs 5.90 crore net in India on Thursday, October 29, its 15th day in theatres. Rajinikanth's film's collection was recorded across 10,313 shows, according to Sacnilk. This represents an 18.1 percent drop from the Rs 7.20 crore it earned on Wednesday.
The film's total domestic net collection now stands at Rs 429.55 crore, while its India gross has reached Rs 502.65 crore. The overseas market contributed Rs 2 crore on Thursday, taking its cumulative international gross to Rs 262.50 crore. With these earnings, the worldwide gross has climbed to Rs 765.15 crore.
Among the different language versions, Tamil continued to lead on Day 15 with Rs 3.20 crore from 4,462 shows. The Telugu version collected Rs 1.40 crore across 1,665 screenings, while the Hindi version added Rs 1.10 crore from 3,972 shows. The Kannada release contributed Rs 20 lakh.
The film opened its second week with a strong weekend. It earned Rs 14.50 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 24.15 crore on Saturday and Rs 25.70 crore on Sunday. The collections then slowed during the weekdays, with Monday bringing in Rs 9.45 crore, Tuesday Rs 8.30 crore and Wednesday Rs 7.20 crore. Its opening week had contributed Rs 334.35 crore to the domestic net total.
Jailer 2 secured the top spot among Tamil films worldwide on its 11th day in theatres. The film surpassed the previous record held by Rajinikanth and Shankar's 2.0, (also produced by Sun Pictures) which had grossed around Rs 691 crore worldwide. The sequel also crossed the Rs 700 crore milestone, becoming the first Tamil film to achieve the feat.
The film's performance is also ahead of Rajinikanth's Coolie. On its 15th day, the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial had collected Rs 2.40 crore net in India, considerably lower than Jailer 2's earnings on the corresponding day. Coolie eventually ended its theatrical run with a worldwide gross of Rs 493.48 crore.
