Luxury watchmaking brand Jacob & Co has once again turned its attention to Indian religious symbolism (especially as India waits for Ranbir Kapoor-led Ramayana), unveiling a new timepiece inspired by Lord Ram, Lord Hanuman and the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Called the Shri Ramchandra Limited Edition, the watch has a melange of intricate miniature sculptures, rotating astronomical elements and precious materials.

The latest creation follows the brand's Ram Janmabhoomi-themed watches, which have attracted attention for using symbols associated with the Hindu epic Ramayana into high-end timepieces. The Shri Ramchandra Edition takes this concept further with a three-dimensional composition built around celestial movement and detailed craftsmanship. Announcing the watch on Instagram, Jacob & Co revealed that the limited-edition creation is based on its Astronomia Solar design. Only three pieces will be made worldwide, making it an exceptionally rare addition to the brand's collection.

Jacob & Co's Shri Ramchandra Watch

The watch's design is arranged like a three-dimensional scene rather than a conventional dial. Lord Ram occupies the six o'clock position, while Lord Hanuman is placed at nine o'clock. Their figurines sit alongside the watch's moving astronomical elements, making the religious inspiration central to its construction. The most beautiful feature is a blue lacquered Earth that rotates on its axis once every minute. A flying tourbillon cage positioned at 12 o'clock also completes a rotation every minute, adding another layer of movement to the display. The combination turns the passage of time into a spectacle that can be viewed from multiple angles.

The hours and minutes are indicated in 5N rose gold on an off-centred dial crafted from orange fire opal. At the centre sits a saffron-toned Jacob-cut orange cubic zirconia, which represents the Sun. The blue of the Earth and the warm orange and saffron accents create a contrasting palette within the watch's intricate architecture. The composition rests on a blue base decorated with a mandala pattern. Jacob & Co has added three-dimensional engravings, constellations, hand-crafted dragons and Jacob-cut gemstones to the design, layering decorative details around the central figures and moving components. The mechanical and decorative elements are housed in an 18-karat rose gold case.

Jacob & Co has limited production to three pieces worldwide. Describing the creation, the brand said, "Limited to just three pieces worldwide, the Shri Ramchandra brings together devotion, symbolism and the art of haute horlogerie."

Ranbir Kapoor's Ram Janmabhoomi watch

The Shri Ramchandra is not Jacob & Co's only timepiece inspired by Lord Ram and Ayodhya. The brand's Ram Janmabhoomi Rose Gold Special Edition, part of its Epic X collection, takes a different approach to the theme. Actor Ranbir Kapoor has been seen wearing this watch, which features miniature depictions of the Ram Mandir, Lord Ram with his bow and Lord Hanuman.

Unlike the Astronomia Solar-based Shri Ramchandra, the Epic X edition is defined by its openworked design and sculptural case. It pairs a rose gold construction and matching clasp with a bright orange strap secured by a pin buckle. The combination of religious imagery and a contemporary luxury-watch silhouette gives it a distinctive identity within Jacob & Co's collection. Together, the two watches show how the brand has interpreted the Ramayana and the Ayodhya temple through two different expressions of high-end watchmaking.
