RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday warned that unregulated access to OTT platforms could harm younger generations. He urged the government to take appropriate action, saying, “The government and administration should certainly consider this and take appropriate action.” Bhagwat also cautioned that many young people now fall into drug addiction.

Mohan Bhagwat reiterated his concern over the content available on social media and OTT platforms, warning that unregulated access to information could have a harmful impact

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday reiterated his concern over the content available on social media and OTT platforms, warning that unregulated access to information could have a harmful impact, particularly on younger generations.

“… In our country, too, people are discussing the need for such regulations, particularly regarding OTT platforms. The government and administration should certainly consider this and take appropriate action…" he said.

Bhagwat also cautioned against the use of addictive drugs among younger generations, stating that the issue stems from a lack of prudence and wisdom.

“Due to the absence of prudence and wisdom, various harmful consequences are seen in personal, family, and social life. One such problem that has arisen specifically due to a lack of wisdom is the issue of addictive drugs. It is not as if people are unaware that intoxicating drugs are harmful, they do know", he said.

“Yet, people still fall into addiction, turning it into a serious national issue… Parents must impart this wisdom to the young, and the younger generation must cultivate the habit of staying away from such things…"

While the RSS chief acknowledged that no one can stop the advancement of technology, he said that it must be perceived as a mere tool.

“No one can stop the advancement of science and technology, it flows naturally, knowledge is acquired, and technology arrives… However, we must keep in mind that technology is merely a tool…" he said.

Increased Curiosity Towards India

Mohan Bhagwat said there has been an increased curiosity towards India, which stems from its citizens’ way of life, rooted in materialism, individualism, and unrestrained consumption.

However, he warned that this has also given rise to a number of problems.

“Attention has been drawn toward India. As the nation’s stature grows and the country progresses, curiosity about India is also increasing. This is because their way of life, rooted in materialism, individualism, and unrestrained consumption, shaped by a partial perspective, has given rise to problems in their lives."

“Despite being materially prosperous, they are burdened by concern over these issues. They lack answers on how to manage the world’s vast diversity together, how to balance development with environmental preservation, how to treat those who are different with a sense of oneness, or how to stop the decay in family life and the erosion of values in the younger generation…" Bhagwat said.
